Our Mission

Teaching students, not subjects, creating life long learners who want to serve Christ and accept Him as their personal Savior.

Our Vision

Union Springs Academy operates in order to produce students who are God-directed to make choices based on eternal principles. They are to be critical thinkers, not settling for accepting the thought of others without assessing it for themselves.

Instruction will be organized using project-based learning (link to direct education handbook regarding projects). This learning is to be as practical and real-to-life as possible. It will not be limited to the classroom but will encompass the entire community.

Direct Education is chosen to develop independent thinking and personal creativity. The greater variety of subjects empowers the student to individualize his or her program encouraging choices and leading to an understanding of personal responsibility.

Projects will require them to gather, evaluate and analyze information, then organize and present to others what they have learned. This process will teach them to be supportive of others’ learning, providing opportunity to mentor those newer to the system. It will also develop life skills that can be used in any area of service the student chooses. This will enable our students to go beyond merely memorizing facts, allowing them to become life long learners.

Admissions:

Union Springs Academy is a Seventh-day Adventist Christian boarding school. Due to our small size we have a family atmosphere that encourages growth and provides a safe and secure learning environment. Because of this family atmosphere we consider all applications carefully. We expect our students to abide by the rules and regulations set forth in our Handbook (link to handbook) and be a positive contributor to the learning environment. Families interested in applying may do so either online (click here for online application) or by downloading the application (click here for printable application) and sending it by mail. Additional forms for enrollment may be downloaded here (you get the picture). If you have difficulty accessing any of this information please contact the admissions office at Union Springs Academy.

Grading, Attendance, and Communication

USA has recently switched to an online grade book program. RenWeb is our official school records software and provides for some exciting communication tools. As a family you will be able to go online and see what grade you have in every class, what you received for a particular assignment, and what assignments you might be missing. In addition parents, you will be able to see any attendance or discipline issues your student may have as soon as it is entered into the system. This provides for you as a family to be more supportive and for parents, students, and staff alike to work together more efficiently.

Extracurricular Activities

In addition to the innovative and cutting edge academic program at USA we have many extracurricular activities for students to participate in. Our athletic department has several exciting opportunities for our students. There are interscholastic teams for women’s and men’s basketball and soccer as well as women’s volleyball (when there is enough interest). Our acro-sport gymnastics team tours and performs throughout New York and the North East. We have an outstanding music department that features a concert choir, band, and bell choir. We try and schedule our day so that students have opportunity to participate in several of these activities not just one. In addition to the music and athletics we also offer some courses once a week that are chosen by the student body each year. This can include such things as Drama, Painting, Crime-Scene Investigation, Home Economics, Sports Topics, Photography, or a variety of other subjects. Each class is worth ¼ credit in its specific subject area and the courses change each semester.
